Hybrid Documentary as An Artistic Form
Hybrid storytelling is often referred to as a “new” format – but filmmakers have long mixed documentary, scripted, archival, and animated elements to tell their stories. Join filmmakers from this year’s hybrid films “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” “The World is Not My Own,” and “You Were My First Boyfriend” as we explore using this form to tell stories in fresh and unexpected ways and hear why hybrid films deserve a place in the doc programming line-up.
Panelists Petter Ringbom & Ruchi Mital - "This World Is Not My Own" Annetta Marion - "Still: A Michael J Fox Movie" Ines Hofmann Kanna - "You Were My First Boyfriend"

Small and Mighty
Paradox and Possibility in Short Filmmaking
Short films can have big value – as proofs of concept and as stories that stand on their own – but they can be tricky to make a reality. Join filmmakers from animated documentary short “How to Rig an Election” (narrated by Tom Hanks) and live action narrative short “Closing Dynasty” (Winner, Best Short Film, Berlinale 2023) as we discuss how to get creative with positioning, financing, distribution, and more.
Panelists Lloyd Lee Choi - "Closing Dynasty" Jenna Kelly - "How To Rig An Election"
